The Upper School
The Upper School ( Grades 9-12 )
The curriculum is idea and concept-oriented with teachers utilizing the inquiry and project approach. Critical thinking and decision making skills are emphasized by utilizing oval table discussions(Harkness tables) led by knowledgeable and experienced teachers. Science classes are “hands on” emphasizing learning through field work and experimentation.
Every student takes a core college preparatory curriculum consisting of English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science and Foreign Languages. This core is supplemented with courses in the Arts, Music, Physical Education, Computer Science, SAT Preparation,TOEFL Preparation and English as a Second Language (ESL). Extra English lessons are also provided.
In their senior year, students attend a senior seminar on the role of the citizen leader in society.This seminar also includes community service and a research project.
